This is my 30th anniversary edition Revell Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper. I have always thought the Viper was one of the best designed vehicles in sci-fi with its very simple classic lines that make it look not only functional but just plain cool! After building the Alien Attacker I felt confident enough to inflict even more damage on a model and decided to severely battle damage the Viper. I built an inner engine substructure using a plumbing fitting I picked up at my local hardware store for approximately 35 cents and shaped different diameter wire and tubing around it. I placed another fitting on the opposite side for balance as they do add quite a bit of weight. I attempted to emulate the look of the exposed engine of the Viper MkII to give it familiarity. For the wing I used the same wire and tubing as well as an edge connector section from an old PC board. I then melted holes in the appropriate areas of the model with a soldering iron and used a blade to clean and shape the blast damage. I painted the model per the instructions and I weathered it with washes and oils. |
