This year the club's Christmas Competition was to build and race a Pod Racer. The pod racers were mainly kit bashed, though a couple that had been totally scratch built. The competition was people's choice held on the day of the club's Christmas party. The winner was the Flying Kiwi built by Andrew Graham. His creation was made from DAS and had a squid-like theme with a Kiwi pilot holding a beer. Two juniors also came to the party, Jarrod Gayski and Max Cooper, with some fantastic builds. After lunch we raced the Pod racers down the tables in the club rooms. The race was like any type of board game: roll the dice and move forward |
|
Of course there were all types of problem squares like ''lose a turn - your Pod racer has stalled'' and ''go back one space your Pod racer has been shot by a Tuskan Raider''. We also had a section of the table where there was ''no overtaking" - this was our canyon the racers had to fly through. It made for some light fun when pilots at the rear where throwing sixes and not able to overtake the leaders,. To add to the surroundings some mountains where made from styrene but were easy to move out of the way when the fleet of racers approached. The winners of the race: in First place: Aaron with the Dino racer; Second Place: Eli and Brodie with the flying Kiwi, and; Third Place: Max with his pod racer. |
