Battlestar Pegasus

By Sylvain Beignet

This is the Battlestar Pegasus AKA "the Beast” from the new Galactica series. It was released by Fantastic-Plastic. It is approximately 1/3700 scale and measures about 50 cm long (20 inches) and consists of over 60 pieces.

I took great pleasure to build it, but not without lot of work. The molding quality is good for the head and main body (rotocast) but the rest of the parts, not very accurate... prominent seams, bubbles, etc... The Viper pods are particulary difficult to assemble, but with time, courage and putty, it's possible.

I took some time to detail it, with 1/400 and 1/700 WW2 and French battleships, and brass wire. Principally used : Heller 1/400 French battleships, but also command car from Italeri, and some parts from Italeri tanks.

The other modifications are the Vipers launch tubes: I didn't like the first ones, so I decided to remake them with wood and plastic card.

This model gave me the occasion to print my own decals; for the hull plates, but for the vipers pods too, the floor principally. The kit contains a decal sheet, for the name of the ship, the BSG Group insignia (on the top), the floor of vipers landing bays and the red front panels. It took me many hours to paste the decals one by one on the ship. When I put on 30 decals in one hour. I was lucky!

This kit is interesting to make, and with a lot of work you can obtain a great model in your shelf.
