SDF-1

By Robert Stimpson

This model is heavily kitbashed from an old Matchbox SDF-1 toy that was purchased on Ebay. The model was rebuilt to represent the Macross as seen in the anime move Macross: Do You Remember Love. As there are several major differences between this version and the original as seen in the anime TV series, a lot of work had to go into it.

To describe the basics of what was changed: the legs were cut-off at the knee, and lengthened to bring them into scale with the rest of the model. The Main Cannon booms were also lengthened and detailed, and the arm sections were completely scratch built. The bridge unit (head) was discarded, and a new custom-built version, in scale with the piece, was installed. The ARMD platforms are detachable, connecting to the shoulders via a ball-joint. Most of the materials used in the construction consisted of Devcon Plastic Welder, and ABS plastic computer faceplate panels that a friend gave to me (His brother owned a computer shop.).

Sadly, the model could not retain it's transformability and be rebuilt as it is now, so some sacrifices had to be made. Also, the shoulders no longer rotate, as the mechanism for this broke during the reconstruction of the toy into a model. As a side note, during the reconfiguration of this replica, the height of the model grew from the toy's 12 inches to a total of 18 INCHES IN HEIGHT!! This was mostly due to the lengthening of the booms and the legs.

Overall, this piece still needs more detailing and overall work, but after ten years of work on this (due to costs and lack of materials), I felt it was time to show this to the world.
