MoebiusFlying Sub

By Orland Guiang

Moebius is producing exceptional kits and the Flying sub is a prime example. Let me just say that I truly appreciate the attention to detail given to these products and I hope that they keep churning them out for a long time to come. The accuracy of this 1/32 scale model is exceptional and it measures over 14 inches from front to stern making it about twice the size of the old Monogram kit.

I began with the construction of the inner cabin, which is very straightforward to put together. I basically followed the painting scheme suggested by the instructions. Based on what I saw on the DVD's, the recommended colors seemed correct. I also purchased the floor and instrument panel decal sheets available on this site. Of the two, I'd highly recommend the floor decal. It wasn't too difficult to place and it looks great. As for the instrumentation decal sheet, it depends on whether you'd be interested in sanding off a lot of the detailing. I particularly wasn't so I ended up using only some of them.

The outer hull was painted with Tamiya's Chrome Yellow and the blue highlights were painted with Testors Blue Angel blue. Most of the time with this model is spent painting and I strongly suggest using an airbrush to give you the straight lines needed. If you have the expertise, lighting the kit would be a great finishing touch. I didn't light mine. In the end, the model pieced together quite nicely with no major gaps to fill.

You can see as you view the pictures of both the interior and exterior just how accurate this kit is. This model isn't cheap but considering the size I think it's reasonably priced. This one makes a great addition to any sci-fi model collection and I'd highly recommend it.
