Although I've been building kits for some time now, this is my first submission anywhere so, please be kind! This is the excellent Hasegawa YF-19 kit from Macross Plus (Purchased right here at the SSM Trading Post. Thanks, Gonzalo). Build was OOB and pretty straight-forward. Little putty was used as fit for this kit was excellent. In fact the kit is so well engineered that even a modeler of my meager skill can put together something resembling a YF-19. The only problem I encountered was some of the clear parts. They were a bit tricky because they're so tiny but some luck and perseverance saw me through. The kit was airbrushed with Testors Model Master Acryl II Light Gray overall. The camouflage pattern was painted using MM Acryl Light Ghost Gray and was loosely based on the F-15 Compass pattern from the late 90's. I gave the kit a hand-brushed coat of Future before applying decals. Decals are a combination of kit decals and stencils from a Microscale F-14 set. The skulls on the tail are from a sheet of Warhammer decals I had in the spares box. Weathering was done with Tempera paints. I decided to go with a somewhat worn look as that is usually my preference (I like aircraft that look like they've seen some combat). |

I finished it up with a couple coats of Testors Dull-Cote sprayed from an airbrush.
I've built a few of the Hasegawa Macross series kits and I have to say they are beautifully engineered. It's a shame that they are not readily available in the US and tend to be a little pricey when you do find them. I picked up a few of the Bandai Macross Frontier kits and look forward to building those in the near future! |
