This is my first attempt at an original scratch built model. I didn't start with anything in mind, just a keen interest in sci-fi, occasionally I would see something around the house, and think "I could make something out of that". I started by seeing if any of the bits fitted together and what sort of shapes came up. I cut odd bits off but the basic shapes and the dimensions fitted well. The ship is made up of 3 main parts: I figured they would be the things a long range starship would need. A big engine to go fast, somewhere for the crew, and a big radar to avoid hitting asteroids. It's a big ship, maybe 1/2400 scale. I kept the detailing to certain areas, rather than go OTT. The model received a grey primer, which after much thought and deliberation I decided to keep. Enhanced with a black wash and some light dry brushing, I was happy with the battleship look. Originally the radar section was going to be white, so I masked it off to produce the stripe. The engine nozzle has been lightly weathered with pastels. The serial number decal came from the spares box. I've avoided mentioning what I've used, rather than spoil the illusion. But they really are just throw away items, and some streched sprue. There are no model parts. The ship is about 30cm long. The ceramic stand was also made by myself.
