Phase II Enterprise |

I have here pictures of my latest personal build. The “Hypothetical Phase-II Enterprise”. I built this from an idea that someone here on the boards gave me a few years ago. I do not recall who it was (sorry). However, I also took some additional creative ideas of my own and added to the original concept: "What would the Refit look like with all of the shield grid lines removed and painted in TOS colors?" I then asked myself, "How would it look with TOS-style windows in the same locations as the TOS ship, plus the markings seen from drawings of the Phase II itself?" |
This is what I came up with. The model is built from the Alliance kit. I filled in all of the grid lines and windows and sanded it smooth. Building the model OOB I didn't modify anything. The main modifications (aside from the aforementioned filling) would be the paint and markings. I used the standard TOS colors for this. The overall color is Camouflage Gray, with the torpedo launcher and the Plasma Flush vents on the pylons being Dark Ghost Gray. The Plasma Conduit panels are Light Ghost Gray, as are the Impulse Engine panels and the Landing Pads. The Deflector is painted Reaper Cornflower Blue with white airbrushed inside to create the soft white glow. Around the dish itself, I painted it Copper, as well as the aft section of the Deflector Housing (similar to some of the TOS pictures). I also left the shuttle ports on it, and used the kit supplied decals to mark them. The warp grills are Gun Metal, and the shuttlebay doors are Aluminum (with a mechanical pencil marking the separate panels). On the lower saucer, I have left the landing Pads, and the two airlock doors nearest to the Planetary sensor. Once painting was completed, I added the decals. I thank Jeff (JTGraphics) for printing me a few sets of TOS Enterprise window decals. I placed them in the same locations as the ones seen on the Production Enterprise, including the ones on the Lower and Upper saucer (around the Bridge). I also used the same locations for the saucer rim. For the hull numbers I used JTGraphics 'Kitbash Decals' that have a hybrid design between TOS-style and TMP-style. With those I was able to add the lower saucer numbers, and the ones normally reserved for the TOS-style nacelles went on the secondary hull (as per the Phase-II drawings). I left the phasers on the ship, but decided not to have the warning markings added. That would be for a later refit (as would the thruster markings and such). I also left 5 of the upper hatches from the TMP design, and used the Alliance-supplied decals for that and the Nacelle numbers. I only added those numbers to the outer nacelles, as I feel that putting them on the inner ones doesn't make much sense to me (first of all there is really no explainable reason for lights to shine on them, and I haven't seen any twin-tailed aircraft, or dual-hulled ships have their name or numbers on the inner tail/hull. So, I didn't add them). Oh, yes, I also added landing lights to the fantail, instead of the ship's name. The landing lights came from my Daedalus kit. |
